 WHY THIS TOURNAMENT?

In India this is the biggest tournament both in terms of prize money and the number of participants. Even foreign players can participate.

I had been very unsuccessful in the last three halfhearted attempts i.e 2015, 2014 & 2013. This year, my goal is to become the Champion cashing in Rs 150000. There is prestige involve. This year it will be an all out attempt.

WHAT MY EXPERIENCE TAUGHT ME

Format of the tournament : 3 rounds per day of 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move 1.
Swiss League : 10 rounds

1. STAMINA IS KING

The single most important element is perhaps the stamina. It is wise to take care of this before I even think about chess stuff. Therefore, I go to gym and workout at least 4 times a week not necessarily for chess but health in general. I love workouts. Three rounds per day is very exhausting since the venue is far from the accommodation, preparing between the rounds is out of question. All preparing need be done before the tournament.

2. KILLER INSTINCT

Normally when the tournament reaches 7th or 8th rounds, the leader board started draw agreement. This temptation must be avoided at all cost except the final round where draw guarantees a champion. Fight till last breath. Also, during preparation make sure to incorporate sharp openings. For worst case scenario maximum of two draws is ok. More than two draws it's good bye to becoming the champion. More than 600 players to be expected this year again just like last year.

3.  STAY IN GOOD FORM

Winning below 2000 tournament is within my reach. The important thing is to stay in good form. In order to win this tournament playing approximately at rated 2200 strength is recommended. Most of the intense training will start at 15th december (approx 20 days).

TIPS :

1. Blunder eradication : Intense focus during the game. Avoiding distractions both internal and external.

2. Precise calculation : Look for the most precise way of winning. No careless thinking that prolong the game eventually draining energy.

3. Book knowledge : Be up to date with the opening theories and remember all the lines and variations.

4. Food and nutrition : Eat quality food and get enough refreshment during the game.

5. Inspiration and motivation: Be inspired to achieve what is humanly impossible. Create records that would be hard to break.

MY CHESS TRAINING FOR THIS TOURNAMENT

I will focus on two areas only ie Openings and Calculation.

Openings :
1.Analyse with computer all the lines I play.
2. Browse recent games played by master in the same variation.
3. Memorize them all .

Calculation:
1. Tactics and combinations
Solve puzzles for three hours or more everyday for 20 days before the tournament. Rest few days before the tournament. Be ready to out calculate whoever is sitting before you in the tournament.
2. Precision
Don't make silly mistakes. Play the best chess that you can possibly play according to your skill.

I am really pump up for the upcoming challenge. Right now I am really busy with my responsibilities and I couldn't play chess. I hope that in the last week of november on, I am on vacation. That's when I release the dragon inside me.
