ANALYZING THE GAME

Analyzing the game is considered by many as the most successful way to improve one's game. Since chess is a game of analysis, it makes perfect sense that a player first and foremost mastered analysis. Whoever had the privilege of attending any chess academy would know that most of their time were spent in analysis.

There are two ways of analysis namely self analysis of self game and analysis of master games. Self analysis is about finding out your own mistakes and weaknesses in your game. It's most important thing is to overcome the weakness. Master game analysis would improve one's intuition and insight into your play. Through master game's analysis, a person comes to know ideas beautifully unleashing. Its a joy to see master creating a masterpiece over the chessboard. Sometimes, it would inspire the reader what a beautiful game he had just analyzed.

How to analyze?
Is it easy to analyze? Analysis is about finding out the truth of the position. So, you can move the pieces back and forth. The main purpose of it is to derive the correct evaluation of the given position. Here, intuition is not important but rather more scientific i.e you should back up with concrete proofs.

1. Writing your precious thoughts down
Any thoughts that passes by your brain during the game should be noted and documented. This is not about the game, its about you, the psychological aspect that you must be aware of. Such method of writing down your thinking process would lead you to be more self-critical, self-aware and this is crucial for maturity. In this method only descriptions but no variations. Also try to bring out your opponent's thoughts here. Like, did your opponent seemed confident during the game or not? Did he play well above his normal level or higher? Is he a little scared of you etc?

2. Finding out the critical moments
In almost any decisive games, there is a moment where you need the most calculations. The moment where things are about to explode. Here the table could turn in any favor. So, calculate variations after variations to find out exactly what the position's requirement is? Since you can move the pieces back and forth, look for every captures, checks no matter how unimportant it may seem. Analysis is about analyzing the critical moments.

3. Bring up your engine
Nowadays, chess analysis without the help of engines is incomplete. Make sure that before you bring up your favorite engines, you had already squeezed your brain to the maximum. Check your analysis with the engine and compare but don't expect your analysis to be a little better than the engine. Its important to know that your ego isn't at stake against the engines.

If you do a small research, half of people's encounter with Fischer talked about him analyzing his own games with his famous pocket chess set. Its the nature of the game. Chess equals analysis. Therefore, we know another method of chess improvement i.e analyzing the games.
