The 1st September 2011
Before I got my international Fide elo rating, I played four tournaments. Two tournaments were open tournaments where Grandmasters can play. So far my results against GM is 1 loss 1 draw 0 win and against FM is also 1 loss 1 draw 0 win. The other two tournaments were below 2200 and below 2000.
In both 2200 and 2000 I got best unrated prize 1st and 2nd respectively. The 1st september came and Fide released the new ratings. I saw my name with 1918. I was disappointed cos I remembered the comment of FM Vinoth who said above 2000.
Then I started visiting indianchessfed.org very often and checked for tournament calender. The Vizag below 2000 was there for sept last week. So hoping to win the tournament or better yet to show on a good performance, I started flipping the pages of Perfect your chess and solved the positions atleast twice a day. Believe me the positions to solve were extremely difficult for my level and almost drained my energy since I am not yet a heavyweight chess player. My preparation was focused on tactics/combinations and openings no endings whatsoever. I visited chesstempo.com and played in fics. That might be a mistake even though till now no clue.
Anyway, some people might think that I was lucky to get 2nd in the tournament giving reasons/explanations saying that I was still very inexperienced or didn't get to play the strongest players in the tournament. To some I agree whereas to others I don't. The truth is not my business at the moment.
Whatever may be it was a great feeling to hold a trophy with my own hands though the trophy may be too small for a 20+ man. The winner of that tournament was a girl Lasya rated 1951. I didn't congratulate her even though I know I should. That was the first tournament and from that day on I learnt how to appreciate someone's victory as it was my own. The world needs good people.
Just after that tournament was another below 2200 inviting me or I was simply too addicted to chess. Without rest or preparation I reached the tournament venue after some days. But something happened after Vizag tournament and i.e. ce-le-bray-tion... How sweet is victory, every seconds seemed enjoyable. My brain said, " Lets start preparing for the next tournament, I refused and therefore I am.
