The final disaster

In the tenth round of the 3rd KCF chess tournament 2011, I was defeated for the last time in the tournament by an unrated player by the name Varun Kumar. There was a story behind the lost game.

The game started with a Petroff Defense with the author on the white side. As it was an opening which I played for a long time, I was familiar with the stuff. During the early middle game itself I got control of the center. Now  the interesting thing happened. I remembered that my cell phone had not been switched off, what if some body made a call to my number or an sms from the company which they send every time. My thought process ran towards like taking out the cell and switch off openly, to take out the phone and put in a bag far away from me. After a minute I did both ie took the cell phone away and kept it in my bag outside the hall and finally switch off.

Now coming back to the board for full concentration, I could see my opponent having the upper hand on the clock. That wasn't decisive since I had a bullet background but in the endgame, it had a toll on my accuracy because my clock reached below 10 secs and I was playing by increments (Game is 60m + 30sec /move).

During those time pressure, my opponent Varun called the arbiter (referee) and complaint about the sound that the clock produced when my time reached less than ten seconds. To be honest with you that warning sound helped me and I fully agree with my opponent's complaint. The arbiter finally changed the clock and the game continued. The end was near and I could feel it since my sacrifice of a rook was a mistake. From that moment on, I had nothing much but to go for a piece down ending which I finally lost.

Congrates to my opponent! This will be the end of my disaster blog. Next will be my real life experience on and off the board..
